Anyone see this movie yet? I've heard mostly negative things, but being a Gram fan it is on my Netflix Queue, is there any reason I should bump it up to the top of my Queue?

Re: Grand Theft Parsons
Wed, May 25, 2005 - 10:39 PMI loved Gram's music & was fortunate to have experienced live performance of Burritos & a few shows with Emmy Lou. I was deeply saddened by his death & recall the fiasco of the 'theft' of his remains & aftermath all those years ago. In spite of all that, I was disappointed with the recent film. Better to play his music. I do look forward to a better attempt of film tribute in the future. We do have his catalog of recorded material to cherish & enjoy... -

Re: Grand Theft Parsons
Thu, June 9, 2005 - 2:17 PMI finally saw it on tv. It really sucks. The script is awful, the performers ok to lame, but I watched it all hoping at some moment it might come alive.
This is just hollywood bottom feeding - smells as bad as any bad studio film, and
has a relentless stupidity that could well have come from Phil K's
pea sized brain.
Oh and the end with Phil and Gram's "dad" side by side watching the burn is too repulsive to be stink movie funny... but almost.
If you want to see it - watch for it on tv or rip off a copy somewhere - do not give these people your money. -

Re: Grand Theft Parsons
Mon, January 9, 2006 - 10:11 AMI think everyone involved with this movie should be ashamed of themselves/no ones death is funny/I have seen this mess described as a "Comedy buddy road pix" To make a comedy out of such a tragic loss of a really special young man and to make it worse add the Bob Parsons/Cecil Connor fusion into "Dad" is criminal. There are so many people who will take that part as the truth.
Phil Kaufman has posed at Gram's grave in Metarie with a shovel//he seems to have no clue how disgusting that is, but then he has dined out on his little bit of fame?? for thirty years+ and seems very proud of himself. I could respect the man and the event if he had had the decency to see it thru but to leave the remains charring on the side of the road like so much garbage? It made me sick and very angry then and it still does.
I hope some day someone will make a factual decent movie of Gram's life and music and not dwell on the horrible desecration of his remains. The books that have ben written about him are a good start/they may not all agree or be totally accurate but at least they have all been about his life and music not just the tragic end.
